Argentine Ants: Why They Invade Glendale Homes Every Summer

Argentine ants are the ant you fight in Glendale, and they play by different rules. Across Southern California they form massive interconnected supercolonies, so the trail on your counter is a tiny piece of a colony that can span yards and whole blocks. They nest outdoors under mulch, pavers, irrigation lines, and potted plants.

Why they come in when it dries out

Argentine ants follow water. When Glendale's foothills dry out in late spring and summer, the ants march indoors looking for moisture and food, trailing along counters, baseboards, and windowsills to kitchens and bathrooms. Homes along the Verdugo and San Gabriel foothills with mature, irrigated landscaping see the heaviest pressure.

The nest is still outside. So control has to work the exterior, not just the counter.

Bait beats spray

Repellent sprays are the classic mistake: they scatter Argentine ants into new satellite nests and make the problem worse. The fix is slow-acting bait the foragers carry back to share through the colony, plus a non-repellent exterior perimeter that ants cross without detecting, spreading it nest to nest. Trimming plants off the house and fixing irrigation leaks cuts the pressure.
