Why the foothills are roof rat country

The roof rat, the agile black rat, owns Glendale's hillside neighborhoods. If a tree limb touches the roof, that is a highway. Once inside, they nest in the attic, gnaw wiring, and foul insulation.

So a few snap traps in the kitchen rarely solve it. The attic and roofline are where the work happens.

Lasting control pairs trapping along the roofline runways with exclusion: sealing every roof, eave, and vent gap with rodent-proof materials and trimming tree limbs back from the roof to cut off the highway. Removing attractants, fallen fruit, pet food, and dense ground ivy keeps the sealed home unattractive.
